Ageing Hands Treatment

Aging is a natural process. As you age, your body will go through various changes. Some of the most visible signs of aging usually occur on your skin’s surface, especially on your hands. Many of us take care of the skin on our faces as we age. We often neglect our hands. With age, you may notice several aesthetic changes to the hands. They will change in texture and smoothness, and the skin may become drier and more crepey. You may also notice that veins become more prominent since the skin becomes thinner and they become more noticeable. The volume in the skin also starts to decrease, making the hands appear bony and frail. In addition, you may notice sun and age spots or pigmentation changes.

Age spot

spots called sun spots or liver spots, consist of flat, round blotches on your skin that are brown to black in color. The hands are common places for age spots to develop, as well as your face and chest. While these spots can certainly appear with age, the name is a bit misleading, as these spots are primarily caused by ultraviolet (UV) ray exposure.

Age spots may be prevented by reducing UV exposure. Protect your hands by applying sunscreen daily.

When selecting a sunscreen, here are some important things to remember:

  • Use an SPF 30 sunscreen at a minimum.
  • Select a broad-spectrum sunscreen. This type of sunscreen provides both UVA and UVB protection.
  • Apply sunscreen year-round, especially between noon and 4 p.m. when the sun is typically brightest.

If you have age spots on your hands you may be a suitable candidate for one of our chemical peels or laser resurfacing treatments. These treatments work by removing your skin’s top layer so that the smoother, more youthful skin underneath is revealed.

Dry, scaly skin

Age spots may be prevented by reducing UV exposure. Protect your hands by applying sunscreen daily.

Dry, scaly skin is often seen with age, but it’s not necessarily inevitable. A lack of water and sleep can dry out your skin. Smoking can also make dry skin worse by removing its natural moisture. Poor circulation can also lead to dryness in your skin. It may be brought on by:

• a diet lacking in recommended amounts of certain minerals and nutrients
• sleep deprivation
• a lack of exercise

Cold, dry weather may also make dry hands worse.

You can prevent dry, scaly hands by using unscented soaps and lotions, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Here are some other ways to prevent dry, scaly hands:

  • Always wear gloves outside during the winter months to prevent further moisture loss.
  • Apply hand ream every time you wash your hands.
  • Prevent immersing your hands in water for a prolonged period of time whenever possible.
  • If you can’t avoid water contact altogether, minimize water-related activities, such as swimming and washing dishes, for a few days.

Treatment for dry hands depends on the severity of the dryness. We offer several tretamenst at our clinic which help improve the hydration and skin quality. These include Mesotherapy, Profhilo, PRP and Dermal Filler

Wrinkles in the skin

Wrinkles develop as a result of collagen loss. These protein-based fibers are more readily available when you’re younger. However, it’s also possible to lose collagen too early.

We offer several treatments at our clinic to help combat wrinkles and improve the skin quality. These include Mesotherapy, Profhilo, PRP and Dermal Filler.

Treatment Options

The treatment of ageing hands often involves a combination of different treatments that will address volume loss between the tendons, pigmentation and age spots. Most of our treatments will also stimulate collagen levels and elastin production to keep the area plumper, softer and smoother for longer.

Dermal Filler

The treatment with the most dramatic anti-ageing effects for the hands is Juvederm Volift dermal filler. The filler is injected below the skin’s surface through a fine needle in the backs of the hands. The backs of the hands are immediately re-plumped and have replenished volume, so that veins, tendons, joints are no longer as prominent. Juvederm Volift is an advanced hyaluronic acid dermal filler, which is based on a naturally occurring substance within the skin which retains water. Over time, hyaluronic acid in our bodies depletes with age, which can make the skin appear thinner and this is where dermal fillers provide benefit by replacing the lost volume.

Treatment is quick and highly effective with the benefits showing immediately. What’s more there’s no downtime so y

Most patients find the procedure on their hands comfortable with very little pain. In addition to the use of ultra-fine needles, we apply a numbing cream to the hands. Furthermore, our Juvederm range of dermal fillers all contain lidocaine – a local anaesthetic numbing agent for added comfort.

This treatment takes approximately 30 minutes – 1 hour.

Dermal filler is a gel made from hyaluronic acid – a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. To resolve nuisance wrinkles, it’s injected beneath the surface to plump up surrounding tissue.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy involves multiple injections of specially prepared cocktails of medical grade pharmaceuticals including Hyaluronic Acid (HA), vitamins, minerals and amino acids right beneath the surface of the skin into the problematic area/s. Using a very fine needle, a “drop” of the solution is used at each injection area to nourish and rejuvenate, promote production of collagen and elastin and stimulate your skin’s metabolism. Compared to other skin treatments, the Injectable Mesotherapy is pain and risk free.

Mesotherapy is an injectable treatment that delivers a custom combination of skin-enhancing ingredients to your complexion.During your consultation, we will discuss your skin concerns to determine which formulation the nurse will administer through your Mesotherapy treatment. It will usually contain a blend of hyaluronic acid, vitamins and amino acids.

Before your treatment, we may apply a topical numbing cream to your skin.

Through a series of fine injections, a bespoke blend of peptides, growth factors and antioxidants are delivered into the mesoderm (the middle layer of the skin) from between 1-4mm beneath your skin to improve skin quality and function.

This treatment takes approximately 30 minutes – 1 hour.

At Harley Street Injectables we use a mesotherapy anti-ageing product which combines a non-chemically modified, natural hyaluronic acid with nutritional elements. It prevents and treats the reduction of HA and stimulates the production of collagen.

Our hyaluronic acid products contain an ultra-pure grade HA, produced through a patented process, ranking worldwide as “TOP QUALITY” in terms of purity and safety.

2-4 treatment sessions with 3 week intervals. The number of treatments required will vary from patient to patient, depending on the patient’s skin concerns.

Profhilo

Profhilo is a unique type of hyaluronic acid injectable treatment that will restore volume loss of the hands while synthesising collagen to boost plumpness. The nurse will inject the substance into the areas that have volume loss which will improve the texture and crepiness of ageing hands.

Profhilo is a suitable treatment for those who are looking for a treatment that will provide revitalisation, radiance and hydration, and a smoother skin surface.

As the formulation synthesises collagen and boosts elasticity, it can also reduce wrinkles, tighten the skin and give a subtle lifting enhancement. It’s suitable for all skin tones and skin types.

Unlike other filler types that build volume, or plump out lines, Profhilo has a smoother consistency that spreads evenly. You could think of it like an injectable serum, that disperses Hyaluronic acid so that you can take advantage of its hydrating benefits.

As the hyaluronic acid spreads, it stimulates four different types of collagen and elastin. In doing so, it helps to smooth lines and wrinkles and tighten the skin. The moisture-binding injectable also keeps the skin dewy and plump.

The cell-regenerative effect improves the overall condition, quality and texture of your skin.

You could expect to see skin remodelling within 2-3 treatments.

Once a month for the first 2-3 sessions, then between 3-6 months for any maintenance treatments.

Results will improve with each treatment and can last 28 days or more. With the boost in hyaluronic acid, you could expect to benefit from an increase in collagen that lasts for several months after your treatment.

Clear & Brilliant

Clear & Brilliant is a fractional non-ablative laser that targets pigmentation fine lines and wrinkles. The surrounding areas replace the treated tissue and promote collagen growth to plump and improve skin texture. This treatment is suitable for pigmentation, rejuvenation and uneven skin texture.

Your consultation will determine your suitability for treatment.

First we will apply a numbing cream to minimise discomfort during treatment. We will configure the depth depending on the area and concern, and the device will make a few passes over your skin, delivering bursts of energy. After the Clear & Brilliant treatment you may notice some slight swelling and redness. This usually goes down in 6-8 hours.

The fractional laser treatment delivers precise beams of energy in a pixel-size formation to target specific cells. The surrounding cells remain intact, which speeds up healing. The heat from the energy destroys the injured or damaged cells and stimulates collagen production to remodel and fill in the area with new healthy cells.

Most patients require 4-8 sessions. One session every 2 weeks depending on the severity of the skin concern.

Chemical Skin Peels

A chemical skin peel varies in strengths, depths, and ingredients to help minimise pigmentation, help improve the stimulation of collagen and elastin production and promote the growth of new cells. We offer several types of skin peels at Harley Street Injectables that are suitable for both anti-aging and pigmentation of aging hands.

The treatment begins with a consultation where your practitioner will assess your skin to decipher your skin conditions and the best course of treatment.

Certain peels like Cosmelan or Enerpeel may require skin preparation with the use of at-home products in the lead up to your appointment. Your practitioner will prescribe a list of recommended products that will be suitable for you or provide you with the appropriate preparation kit.

If we’re treating you with a Cosmelan peel, we’ll require you to use a prepping de-pigmentation kit before your initial treatment to prepare your skin for the peel.

During your treatment, your practitioner will double cleanse and prepare the skin by applying a barrier cream around sensitive areas and remove all sebum to aid penetration of the acids.

Following this, we will apply the peel of choice and leave it on for a few minutes before neutralising or removing the peel. A neutraliser will prevent the acid from working on the skin, whereas a removal wipe will leave the acid active on the skin to continue improving the complexion following treatment.

Chemical skin peels are suitable for anyone who is looking for overall skin rejuvenation and an improvement in skin tone and texture. Or, those who have:

  • Acne
  • Acne scars
  • Pigmentation and sun-spots
  • Mild actinic keratosis
  • Moderate wrinkles or fine lines
  • Rosacea
  • Large or open pores
  • Crepey skin

The duration of the treatment will depend on your custom needs. Some peels may be left on for longer, depending on your needs and tolerance to treatment. Typically, it’ll take around 30 minutes.

Ultraformer

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound is a simple, non-invasive procedure. The ultrasound energy targets the lower layers of the dermis, generating low levels of heat. This spurs collagen production and rejuvenation of the targeted tissue. After just one treatment, results are noticeable. Ultraformer HIFU can be used to help lift, tighten and improve elasticity in most areas of the body including aging hands.

This HIFU machine uses a medical grade ultrasound that targets the upper dermis 1.5mm, lower dermis 3.00mm and most importantly the SMAS at 4.5mm. The SMAS is the layer that sits betweenyour muscle and your fat layer.

You will see results after your first treatment. The treated area will be plump, tones and lifted. However, depending on the area, clients may need up to 3-6 sessions to see noticeable results.

You may experience slight redness and tenderness for up to 2-3 days.

Our HIFU device offers faster shot speeds and shorter intervals between each shot, this means it’s very comfortable for the patient. Some people describe it as feeling like tiny electric pulses, or a prickly sensation. It’s not pain free but it’s completely tolerable and it may feel different on different areas of your face or body.

There are many HIFU devices on the market. It is important to make sure the machine is CE marked and safe to have treatment. At best the lower end devices are ineffective and at worst dangerous, this is because the cartridges don’t treat the depths they claim to. However if a medical CE marked device is used, such as ULTRAFORMER III, by a trained professional then HIFU is a very safe and effective alternative to surgery.
