Rosacea Treatment

The sun has a profound effect over years of exposure on the skin, causing premature skin aging, skin cancer, and many other skin changes. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun accounts for most premature skin aging. Many skin changes that were commonly believed to be due to aging, such as easy bruising are actually a result of prolonged exposure to the sun. Skin texture changes caused by UV exposure (eg, from sunbathing, tanning) include thick skin in coarse wrinkles, especially on the back of the neck (cutis rhomboidalis nuchae), and thinning of the skin causing fine wrinkles, easy bruising, and skin tearing, particularly on the forearms and back of the hands. Blood vessel changes lead to bruising with only minor trauma in sun-exposed areas. The sun also causes the appearance of tiny blood vessels (telangiectasias) in the skin, especially on the face.

Skin colour changes caused by sun exposure are common. The most noticeable sun-induced pigment change is brown spots (solar lentigos). Light-skinned people are particularly prone to freckles. Large freckles, also known as age spots or liver spots, can be seen on the backs of the hands, chest, shoulders, arms, and upper back. UV exposure can also cause small white spots on the legs, backs of the hands, and arms (guttate hypomelanosis) as well as red areas on the sides of the neck (poikiloderma of Civatte).

What are the symptoms?

Sun damage can have premature ageing effects on the skin (otherwise known as photo-ageing). The UV rays can alter the cellular processes within the skin, detrimentally transforming them. Signs of sun damage include (but are not limited to) wrinkles and lines, dark circles, pigmentation, spider veins and broken blood vessels, redness, rough skin texture, sagging and crepiness due to a loss of collagen and elasticity within the skin

Who it can affect

Anyone who exposes their skin to UV rays will make themselves susceptible to sun damage. However, those with fairer skin types and fairer or red hair are more likely to burn, which can be more harmful to your skin and overall health

Causes

Sun damage has the potential to be extremely harmful to the skin, increasing your risk of developing skin cancer. Exposing your skin to the sun allows both UVA rays and UVB rays to harm the skin. Over time, exposure to UVA rays, in particular, can damage the structure of your skin cells, causing the dermis to deteriorate and show rapid signs of ageing. With constant exposure to the sun, skin cells begin to mutate and die. The damage also breaks down the skin’s matrix system and depletes the collagen and elasticity levels, accelerating the speed of ageing and breaking down firmness and volume within the complexion.

Profhilo

Profhilo is an injectable anti-ageing treatment made from hyaluronic acid for skin that is losing its elasticity and firmness with age. Profhilo is not a dermal filler or biorevitaliser – Profhilo has opened up a new injectable category – bioremodeling.Thermal cross-linking changes the character and behaviour of the HA resulting in the formation of co-operative hybrid complexes which modulate the tissues. One of the main advantages is longevity. Treatment with Profhilo improves skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance. It can help to increase firmness and elasticity and promote healthier and softer-looking skin. Profhilo is most commonly used for facial areas, but can also be used to rejuvenating the neck, decolletage, arms, knees and hands.

During your consultation, we’ll determine your suitability for treatment. Your nurse may recommend that you combine Profhilo with other treatments to achieve the best results.

You may feel a slight sting as the needle enters the skin. The practitioner can apply a topical numbing cream, though this is usually not necessary.

You should expect to see results between 4-8 weeks after your first treatment as the body starts to produce its glow-giving factors. We recommend 2-3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.

You could expect to see skin remodelling within 2-3 treatments.

Once a month for the first 2-3 sessions, then between 3-6 months for any maintenance treatments.

There is no real downtime with this treatment. You might see slight swelling, bruising or redness after Profhilo.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a technique that uses injections of vitamins, enzymes, hormones, and plant extracts to rejuvenate, hydrate and tighten skin. The technique uses very fine needles to deliver a series of injections into the middle layer (mesoderm) of skin. The idea behind mesotherapy is that it corrects underlying issues like poor circulation and inflammation that cause skin damage.

Mesotherapy is an injectable treatment that delivers a custom combination of skin-enhancing ingredients to your complexion.

During your consultation, we will discuss your skin concerns to determine which formulation the practitioner will administer through your Mesotherapy treatment. It will usually contain a blend of hyaluronic acid, vitamins and amino acids.

Before your treatment, we may apply a topical numbing cream to your skin.

Through a series of fine injections, a bespoke blend of peptides, growth factors and antioxidants are delivered into the mesoderm (the middle layer of the skin) from between 1-4mm beneath your skin to improve skin quality and function.

This treatment takes approximately 30 minutes – 1 hour.

We can use Mesotherapy to treat the face, hands, neck and body.

Mesotherapy is a popular treatment for those who suffer from acne scars; the blend of ingredients can improve post-inflammatory pigmentation and enhance collagen levels to help repair pitted scars.

It’s also a treatment that can provide intense hydration and revitalisation while boosting overall radiance.

Since Mesotherapy can counteract free radical damage and ignite fibroblast activity, it makes it effective at treating superficial lines and wrinkles.

It can also be suitable for those who have:

  • Dry, irritated and sensitive skin.
  • Unexplained flakiness.
  • A busy and fast-paced lifestyle and are lacking essential vitamins and nutrients
  • UV damage
  • premature signs of ageing
  • Uneven skin tone (i.e. pigmentation)
  • Cellulite

Volite

Juvéderm Volite is an innovative injectable treatment designed to improve skin quality for up to nine months. This is not a dermal filler, it’s a skin conditioning Hyaluronic acid (HA) gel. Volite is injected into the middle layers of the dermis across many sites to nourish it from the inside out. Volite is suitable for all ages and skin types. Juvederm Volite helps hydrate the skin, because of the high water-binding capacity of HA. It increases elasticity because HA also stimulates collagen production and it smoothes the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines.

The treatment uses vycross technology that binds the hyaluronic acid, giving it greater malleability and a more natural appearance than dermal fillers.

Hyaluronic acid needs to maintain a very low molecular weight in order to be able to efficiently penetrate the dermis, and unfortunately, this is very hard to track within topical skincare. With so much uncertainty over how deep the hyaluronic acid can actually penetrate the skin topically, it’s more effective to inject it.

You can expect to see results within 4-6 weeks.

The results of Juvéderm Volite are not permanent. We recommend for best results to have regular treatments every 6-9 months.

Volite can treat face, neck, decolletage and the back of the hands.

Small raised areas at the injection site will disappear within 1-2 hours following treatment.

Bruising, redness and tenderness to the injection site is common and will resolve in several days.

LED FACIAL

The skin’s repair barrier when strong and healthy can help prevent your skin from premature ageing, keep bacteria at bay, and slow down free radical damage. Not only this but when it is working effectively, it will help your skin to retain as much moisture as possible, keeping your skin looking young and supple. The LED facial uses phototherapy to optimise skin cell performance and encourage skin health.

  • Acne scarring and other types of wounds
  • Dry and dull skin
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Rough texture
  • Inflammation and skin conditions like psoriasis and dermatitis
  • Hyperpigmentation and age spots
  • Sun damage
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Acne
  • Stimulates collagen production to reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Combats dullness
  • Increases hydration
  • Improves hyperpigmentation, age spots and sun damage
  • Reduces inflammation and symptoms of inflammatory skin conditions
  • Improves tone and texture of the skin
  • Improves acne scarring and accelerates wound healing
  • Boosts skin health
  • Eases muscle and joint pains and spasms
  • Reduces bacteria associated with acne

Celluma LED light therapy works to calm redness and inflammation by triggering the body’s natural repair mechanisms. The treatment promotes overall skin health by improving circulation and boosts your skincare regime by allowing greater absorption of skincare ingredients.

Phototherapy can alter biological activity to encourage skin cells to improve their performance and efficiency- this process can promote the body’s healing mechanisms to speed up tissue repair and fortify the skin’s epidermal barrier. In turn, this can improve inflammatory skin conditions (and their symptoms) like psoriasis and dermatitis.

LED light therapy can also kill acne bacteria to help reduce acne, while fibroblast activity synthesises collagen production to improve acne scars (and other wounds) and skin texture.

Approximately 30 minutes.

Soft thread lift

A soft thread can elevate the skin and lift sagging facial tissues that have migrated due to the ageing effects of sun damage. The absorbable threads help to support the skin, while also stimulating and continually replenishing collagen levels over two years. The non-surgical facelift will firm the skin and alleviate signs of ageing, particularly in the lower face like the nasolabial lines and premature jowling.

At Harley Street Injectables, our highly-experienced, qualified and certified Doctors or nurses will perform your procedure.

The process begins with a thorough consultation, where we will discuss your aesthetic concerns and devise a unique thread-lift plan. The soft thread lift requires a local anaesthesia which allows for a faster recovery time and carries less risks than general anaesthesia. We carry out the operation in our own Harley Street clinic which offers convenience and has the highest standards of hygiene and patient safety.

Temporary markings will indicate the lifting direction and entrance site of the threads. Bio directional PDO threads are the first threads that we use and insert through a cannula or micro-needle. Following this, we may also use uni-directional threads to treat the neck, jawline, marionette and nasolabial folds. They are beneficial for creating a more natural contouring effect. The nurse or Doctor will then remove the cannula, and the threads remain in place.

The threads will form a semi-permanent support structure for the face with the lifting effect at a peak around six months later. The results last approximately 18 months but vary from patient to patient.

The procedure usually takes around 45-60 minutes, depending on the size of the area and the number of threads.

An ageing face can manifest itself in several ways; sagging, wrinkles, loss of volume are some indications we might expect to see. The elasticity and collagen depletion can change the shape of the face and its support structure. Some of the earlier signs (after changes in skin texture) are lower facial sagging, premature jowls and brow ptosis.

A soft thread lift will introduce PDO threads through a cannula. The skin grips to the barbs or cones on the thread. The biodegradable threads form a support structure that work to lift, contour and tighten sagging skin through stimulating the body’s natural regenerative process.

By provoking the body’s natural healing response, the procedure promotes the growth of new collagen which surround the filaments, giving the skin a rejuvenated appearance, that progressively enhances over a year.

Antiwrinkle Injections

Botox is one of the most reliable and effective ways to prevent and treat wrinkles caused by expressive movement like the frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines. The injectable treatment will inhibit the movement of these muscles therefore preventing wrinkles from forming. Botox can also soften wrinkles on the neck and chest area through relaxing the muscles and providing a lifting effect to the skin.

The process begins with a consultation where we will discuss your reason for treatment and determine whether you are a suitable candidate.

The practitioner will make a series of injections to administer the substance. We can apply a topical anaesthetic to minimise discomfort. The unit will vary depending on the size of the area and the severity of the concern. You may feel a very slight scratch as the injections enter the skin.

In some cases, the nurse may inject a lower dosage than initially expected – this is standard practice when treating forehead wrinkles, particularly if you have a small forehead. It is essential to assess how your muscles react to the treatment to avoid eyebrow or eyelid drooping. Your practitioner will discuss a follow-up appointment to assess whether you need a top up.

Botox treats wrinkles by targeting the underlying muscle that wrinkles the overlying skin. It restricts the contraction of the muscle, so the overlying skin appears smooth. By inhibiting this movement, the toxin can create many other positive aesthetic effects or have health benefits.

It can take up to 2 weeks to see the full effect of Botox depending on the size of the area treated and the condition. For Botox to the masseter, it can take four weeks, and calf muscles can take six weeks before you see results.

Botox is required every three months.

Ultraformer

Ultraformer skin tightening uses ultrasound technology to address loose skin on the face and neck. In just a few short treatments with the adjustable device, our highly trained aesthetic therapists can provide a lifting effect with reduce facial fine lines and wrinkles.

Ultraformer uses HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) technology for non-invasive skin lifting on the face, neck, and decolletage for lasting tightening and wrinkle reducing results. The device itself has both micro and macro settings to deliver ultrasound energy to different layers of the skin that can differ in intensity to suit individual needs, ranging from 1.5mm to 13mm depth in the dermis to trigger a process of tightening.

During treatment, heat is created in the dermis that works to encourage collagen production. Collagen is a vital protein that keeps skin taut and firm that is lost through the natural ageing process, so when it is stimulated using Ultraformer, it has a tightening effect that develops over time. Treatment time is very low, taking up to an hour, and can be entirely tailored to your needs with as few as one treatment yielding results, though this will depend upon your indication. This will be discussed within your initial consultation, wherein you can express your expectations for treatment with your assigned clinician, who will assess you and create a bespoke treatment plan to fit your unique profile.

As well as the face, Ultraformer skin tightening can be used on the decolletage, neck, and jawline to address skin laxity and tone by firming the skin for a more youthful appearance without surgical intervention. This non-invasive alternative to a facelift has minimal downtime, and avoids the use of scalpels, with ongoing results for collagen production and skin tone. The heat that is created during treatment does not cause any damage to surrounding tissue, as it is only delivered to the target area in a focussed application that avoids the epidermis.

We advise that Ultraformer works best on those who are experiencing skin laxity or sagging on the face and jaw, with some fine lines and wrinkles. Every patient we see has to have an initial consultation before any treatment goes ahead to determine suitability for treatment. This also allows you to talk to your clinician regarding your expectations for treatment, and to ask any questions you may have.

Dermal Filler

HA dermal filler is a great treatment for reducing the appearance of facial lines. Facial lines are often caused by volume loss within the face and thinning of the facial tissue which is often a result of ageing. Restoring lost volume in the face is a great way to help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in a subtle way.

Dermal filler is made up of hyaluronic acid which is found naturally throughout our body and is necessary for our body to function. The role of hyaluronic acid is to increase and maintain the moisture levels within the skin, stimulate the production of elastic and collagen and promote the skin to consistently regenerate and heal. Overtime, hyaluronic acid levels within our skin starts to decrease which can cause the common signs of ageing such as the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles becoming prominent.

Restoring the lost levels of hyaluronic acid directly into the areas of lines and wrinkles is the best line filler for face treatment. Hyaluronic acid increases volume in the skin which fills the lines and/or wrinkles resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Approximately 15-30 minutes, depending on the number of areas. Numbing cream will require an additional 20 minutes to apply before treatment.

You may experience redness, bruising and swelling following your treatment which should subside within 1-3 days.

Filler dissolves naturally over time. Your practitioner will discuss the associated risks and side effects with you during your consultation.

Dermal fillers are non-permanent with results lasting between 4-9 months depending on your metabolism and the type of filler. Lip fillers tend to break down slightly faster, lasting between 3-6 months. Some filler types offer more permanency, lasting up to a year. Longevity varies from patient to patient.

You may experience swelling and bruising around the injection site which should subside within weeks.

Chemical Skin Peels

Chemical peels are a great way to freshen up dull, tired skin and help with problems such as fine lines, pigmentation and acne marks as well as sun damage. They are also a way to roll back the years and reveal tighter, younger skin without too much downtime, restoring that glossy glow we tend to lose as we age. A chemical skin peel varies in strengths, depths, and ingredients to help fight acne scarring, and to stimulate collagen and elastin production, promoting the growth of new cells.

Some ingredients within the peels will also remove excess oil from the skin and kill acne-creating bacteria, making it suitable for ongoing acne management. We offer several types of skin peels at Harley Street Injectables that will help minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The treatment begins with a consultation where your practitioner will assess your skin to decipher your skin conditions and the best course of treatment.

Certain peels like Cosmelan may require skin preparation with the use of at-home products in the lead up to your appointment. Your practitioner will prescribe a list of recommended products that will be suitable for you or provide you with the appropriate preparation kit.

If we’re treating you with a Cosmelan peel, we’ll require you to use a prepping de-pigmentation kit before your initial treatment to prepare your skin for the peel.

During your treatment, your practitioner will double cleanse and prepare the skin by applying a barrier cream around sensitive areas and remove all sebum to aid penetration of the acids.

Following this, we will apply the peel of choice and leave it on for a few minutes before neutralising or removing the peel. A neutraliser will prevent the acid from working on the skin, whereas a removal wipe will leave the acid active on the skin to continue improving the complexion following treatment.

Chemical skin peels are suitable for anyone who is looking for overall skin rejuvenation and an improvement in skin tone and texture. Or, those who have:
  • Acne
  • Acne scars
  • Pigmentation and sun-spots
  • Moderate wrinkles or fine lines
  • Rosacea
  • Large or open pores
  • Crepey skin

The duration of the treatment will depend on your custom needs. Some peels may be left on for longer, depending on your needs and tolerance to treatment. Typically, it’ll take around 30 minutes.

Chemical skin peels vary in strength and substance and are either superficial, medium or deep depending on your skin concerns and skin type.

The acids and other active compounds react with the skin and dissolve the outermost layers of the skin to reveal a fresher, clearer and brighter complexion. Chemical skin peels also promote collagen and elastin growth that will encourage healthier skin.
